Why is Your Home a Termite Target?

Termites are called the silent destroyers for a reason. They are notorious for causing a lot of damage in a short amount of time. On average, a termite colony has 2 million members. They work 24/7, 365 days a year and don't even stop working to sleep.

What Are Conducive Conditions?

It can be frustrating when termites march right into your home and invade your space. You might wonder “what is it about my home that attracts termites?”. Ever heard of conducive conditions? Conducive conditions are settings favorable to termites that put your home at risk of a termite raid. In order to prevent termites from taking over your home, you must eliminate the conditions that they thrive in.

Types of Conducive Conditions

The majority of termite conducive conditions revolve around two things. Moisture and wood

  • Wood to ground contact is the biggest risk factor when it comes to termite infestations. Termites treasure wood and having wood directly touch the ground gives them easy access to your home. In order to fix this, make sure all wooden structures of your home are supported by concrete or brick. Also, keep your lumber or firewood away from your home, as firewood can potentially lure in the silent destroyers.
  • Excess moisture can be caused by factors such as improper ventilation or leaking pipes. Termites are drawn to moisture. To fix the problem of excess moisture, more vents can be installed around the home and/or a plumber can come examine and repair busted pipes.
  • Rotting trees and tree stumps are a termite’s dream come true. Therefore, you have to get rid of them in order to keep termites away. Contact a local tree removal company to get them removed ASAP!
